Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary. ~ Khalil Gibran

Thoughts on Philosophy

For most of my life, I have been under the impression that philosophy is just what people in hard situations turn to.  Or boring people with too much time on their hands.  However, I realised something the other day.  That those two viewpoints, are very one-dimensional ways of looking at a subject such as this.

Philosophy, is the road that people walk on, no matter who they are and how they live.  Some people choose to live on roads made of burning embers, whilst others prefer ice-cold slippery and frozen paths.  Others still choose flimsy, hammock style walkways.  And then there are those who choose concrete steps.

Which is why some don't notice the scenery that they walk through and some don't even move very far to be able to see any changes in the scenery.

I think that I would like to be on a road which will take me through all the magnificent landscapes that life has to offer, which means it has to be a pretty strong type of path.

Ordinary people seem not to realize that those who really apply themselves in the right way to philosophy are directly and of their own accord preparing themselves for dying and death.  ~  Socrates

God pours life into death and death into life without a drop being spilled  ~ Anon
