Sagacious words

Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary. ~ Khalil Gibran

The Contest of Time

Never let the madness of unkind misery
Steal away transcendental spirituality
And drag all down into the grave trap-
Where fallen angels plot in blind unison
As the mortal heart breaks into oblivion.

Iblis cried with the fury of old arrogance
And Jibreel watched with dutiful patience,
The contest of time, seeing and unseeing-
As the whim and wonder of humanity grew
And the earth bore witness to what it knew.

Emily Dickinson

By: Emily Dickinson

I died for beauty, but was scarce
Adjusted in the tomb,
When one who died for truth was lain
In an adjoining room.

He questioned softly why I failed?
“For beauty,” I replied.
“And I for truth,–the two are one;
We brethren are,” he said.

And so, as kinsmen met a night,
We talked between the rooms.
Until the moss had reached our lips,
And covered up our names.

Earthly Tides

When the darkness threatens to destroy
from within the depths of pandemonium-
Create a light.

Obviously some power is bestowed,
So despite the paralysis of suffocation-
Put up a fight.

The last few hurdles are the worst,
Goals closer but the raw affliction-
Distorts sight.

I am to burst in the moments of my despair;
Even as the madness of earthly tides exhales-
A supernatural might.

In my Soul ~ Rabia al-Basri

IN MY SOUL

In
my soul
there is a temple, a shrine, a mosque, a church
where I kneel.

Prayer should bring us to an altar where no walls or names exist.

Is there not a region of love where the sovereignty is
illumined nothing,

where ecstasy gets poured into itself
and becomes
lost,

where the wing is fully alive
but has no mind or
body?

In
my soul
there is a temple, a shrine, a mosque,
a church

that dissolve, that
dissolve in

God.

A Promised Peace

Eternally vulnerable, this heart and it's treasure,
Infinitely valid, the contending of pain and pleasure,
Soft breeze tender forth a calm, found not only in leisure-
Within and around the storms born from every measure,

On the wings of a dove let it be born from the core-
With the justice of eagles, let it be carried forever more-
Without the howling sabotage of trust from the dogs of war;
A promised peace for children, which every future must store.

The Age of Awards

As the tear burns a track and a heart explodes,
As the wheels of time hurtle on fast ever onwards,
And as the cicatrices of every age are slowly earned,

Let the light of the eternal flame learn to shine-
As in the hidden and mysterious recesses of time,
The treasures of validity become fully enshrined.

Head banging in the circles of loss and reward-
Within the dreams and slaughter of killing hordes,
We should paint the world of realisation as an award.

Soothe the you in me- soothe the I in you,
Soothe the strong of earth in gentle truth,
Soothe the ancient and old in the infinite new.

Life

The deafening drums
That beat with malice,
And with the force of time
Reveal all that is tragic;

A bee in the summer of love-
Wandering and lost-
Precisely just to find magic,

As it derives nectar from blossom,
Through the energy of love
And as the caress of the breeze,
Wipes out all tragedy,

The drums still beat silently
And hostility is rendered impotent;
As the treasures hidden by time,
Strive to remain forever innocent;
The highs and lows of conflict
Are shadowed by the sounds,
Smells and sights, of life.
