Sagacious words

Poetry is a deal of joy and pain and wonder, with a dash of the dictionary. ~ Khalil Gibran

The Blackbirds

Yes it's true, we heard the news; the blackbirds did die,
As we stood incredulous and watched them fall from the sky-
I'm confused and I really don't know why,
but I'm sure I heard- not the few but many- cry;
We are the many and not the few but still we're shy
Is it because we are blind to truth and believe every lie?
Weakened through disbelief and ignorance, to not even try?
As we walk through the road of life, we unwittingly say goodbye,
With every heartbeat and through every sigh-
We live in slow-motion, losing the ability to fly.
